RESIDENTIAL BATTERY COLLECTION
We are excited to collect household batteries from residential customers in North Plains and Washington County!
Household batteries are now accepted for recycling at the curb for no additional charge. Batteries will need to be prepared properly and placed in your red bin on your regularly scheduled glass pick-up day. Read below for details and instructions.
Acceptable batteries include:
-
Alkaline batteries - AAA to D - ends do not need to be taped
-
Small lithium-ion batteries (i.e. computer batteries) - battery ends must be taped
-
9-volt batteries (i.e. smoke alarms) - battery ends must be taped
-
Button batteries (i.e. watches) - battery ends must be taped
Non-accepted batteries include:
-
Car batteries
-
Lead acid batteries
Preparation:
-
Use clear tape to cover both end of the batteries to prevent the possibility of a fire
-
Place batteries in a sealed ziploc bag in your red bin on your regularly scheduled glass pick-up day
-
Wait until you have a full ziploc bag before recycling your batteries
-
If the bin is full of glass, please place the batteries on top of the glass
The batteries must be prepared correctly in a taped (except alkaline batteries) and in a ziploc bag or they will not be collected. This is for the safety of our drivers and our processing partners who ultimately handle the batteries.
There will be no effect on rates at this time and no requirement to "opt-in," so if you wish to participate, just place your correctly prepared batteries in your red bin.
Please feel free to call our office at (503) 647-2335 M - F 8:00 - 4:00 if you have any questions.
